Who Is Dr. Devin Kessler?Dr. Devin Kessler is a survivor introduced in the Flooded jungle of Palanai in Dead Island: Riptide. He is a German scientist who researches Kuru and how it is affected by exterior forces, especially with the zombie outbreak. Harlow Jordan recommends the Hero visits Dr. Kessler after Marcus Villa betrays the Hero at the Paradise Survival Camp. It is implied the reason Kessler chose to live and set up a biosphere on the island of Palanai was due to his fascination with the kuru outbreaks that occur intermediately within the Banoi Archipelago. While Harlow claims that Kessler is a good and ethical man, the collectible files that can be found within the game make this highly debatable as they reveal he is working with Frank Serpo and his employers, the Consortium, the organization responsible for the outbreaks across the Banoi Archipelago, to further their research on combining chemicals, derived from the weapons left behind in bunkers when Japan occupied the island during World War II, with the Pathogen HK variant outbreak of the kuru disease to create a potent biological weapon to be sold to military organizations. Additionally, Kessler's biosphere suffers from an outbreak as well, resulting in the deaths of his entire staff. Kessler seems rather unmoved by this and even blames the incident on the carelessness of his now deceased staff, only showing concern for the reagents that were left behind in the biosphere. The immune seem highly suspicious of this, making it debatable if the outbreak in his lab was indeed simply an accident or another twisted experiment to further test the potential of the virus mutations. While it is never explicitly stated what Kessler's exact motives are, it is implied that he is primarily concerned about understanding more about the outbreak to satisfy his own curiosity as a scientist and researcher, having spent years researching the kuru disease and was fascinated by how it continuously adapts and mutates with each new outbreak, and is not concerned about any profit that could be secured in weaponizing the disease. His previous research on how the kuru disease mutates from exposure to chemical weapons, contained within a paper he authored alongside Marcus Villa, before the two had a falling out, was what caught the attention of the Consortium and, thus, saw him as a viable resource for their operations on Palanai. Dr. Kessler can be found in his biosphere northeast of the flooded jungle next to the washed out road to Henderson. When the Hero reaches the research facility, Dr. Kessler complains he is too busy to let the Hero in, but is convinced after learning of the Hero's immunity. He asks the Hero to gather some reagents from his students who became Grenadiers. After obtaining the reagents, Dr. Kessler asks for samples of the Hero's blood to observe and discovers that while the virus does not affect the Hero, it is only suppressed. He warns the Hero about chemicals in the old Japanese tunnels which could mutate the virus in the Heroes, but relents and gives them the map to the tunnels. If the Hero returns and speaks with Dr. Kessler before entering the tunnels, he will ask the Hero to get some samples from the tunnels as well as some research notes. Kessler is happy to have the research and asks the Hero for electronic scrap. After killing the mutated Wayne, the Hero calls Dr. Kessler to find out more about what happened. He explains Wayne must have been infected for such a mutation to happen and brushes off the Hero's worries of being around so much of the chemicals. After the Hero goes berserk on the prisoners at the ferry station, Dr. Kessler theorizes the virus in the Heroes must have mutated as a result of coming into contact with the chemicals, and enhanced their latent rage ability. He warns them not to come in contact with more Mutagen to curb further mutation. The Casebook:Details on each zombie type you meet when meeting them for the first time. It serves as a quick reference guide for the player to look over and be reminded of the weaknesses of each zombie type. Over the course of the game, it will update as you meet new zombies and special infected, including the named zombies in dead zones. It is assumed that it was created by Dr. Kessler as part of his research into the continued infection Infected: ⭐ Speed: Very Fast ⭐ Special Skill: Performs series of deadly attacks, quickly recovers his balance. ⭐ Weak Points: Easy to knock back or knock down. ⭐ Threat Level: 2/5 "Very fast enemy that unleashes a series of dangerous attacks. Its speed lets it catch fleeing players, and it can also launch surprise attacks. Often travels in small groups." Burning Infected: ⭐ Speed: Very Fast ⭐ Special Skill: Performs series of deadly attacks, quickly recovers his balance, causes additional fire damage. ⭐ Weak Points: Easy to knock back or knock down. ⭐ Threat Level: 2/5 "Burning version of the regular Infected, direct contact leads to fire damage. As a result, it must be kept at a distance, e.g. through kicking or the use of two-handed weapons." Walker: ⭐ Speed: Slow ⭐ Special Skill: Can grab and bite his victim. ⭐ Weak Points: Easy to knock back or knock down, moves slowly and therefore can be avoided. ⭐ Threat Level: 1/5 "The most common type of enemy, it is slow but can unleash devastating attacks. A minor threat on its own, Walkers almost always travel in groups. Do not let them surround you." Toxic Walker: ⭐ Speed: Slow ⭐ Special Skill: Can grab and bite his victim, causes additional toxic damage. ⭐ Weak Points: Easy to knock back or knock down, moves slowly and therefore can be avoided. ⭐ Threat Level: 1/5 "Toxic version of the Walker, direct contact leads to poisoning. As a result, it must be kept at a distance, e.g. through kicking or the use of two-handed weapons." Burning Walker: ⭐ Speed: Slow ⭐ Special Skill: Can grab and bite his victim, causes additional fire damage. ⭐ Weak Points: Easy to knock back or knock down, moves slowly and therefore can be avoided. ⭐ Threat Level: 1/5 "Flaming version of the Walker, direct contact leads to fire damage. As a result, it must be kept at a distance, e.g. through kicking or the use of two-handed weapons." Drowner: ⭐ Speed: Very Fast ⭐ Special Skill: Performs series of deadly attacks, quickly recovers his balance. ⭐ Weak Points: Easy to knock back or knock down. ⭐ Threat Level: 2/5 "Very fast enemy that silently lurks in the water and launches surprise attacks. Usually seen in a group, it also presents a threat to people travelling boat since it hears and reacts to the sound of the boat's engine." Thug: ⭐ Speed: Very Slow ⭐ Special Skill: Can knock a victim to the ground, very tough, cannot be knocked down. ⭐ Weak Points: Moves slowly, can be attacked from behind, susceptible to attacks while taunting. ⭐ Threat Level: 3/5 "Very slow and extremely strong, cannon be knocked down. The contents of the recordings take place prior to the events in Dead Island: Riptide and follow John Morgan as he experiences the infection first hand with the army before being taken to the HMAS Avenger. There are a total of 10 recordings in the series. Although the recordings are rendered as files in first person by the player, each diary is actually an audio recording. The different diary entries can be viewed via the Collectables in-game menu and are eligible collectables used to gain the achievement The Collector, and required to gain the achievement The Hoarder. The contents of the recordings take place prior to the events in Dead Island: Riptide and follow John Morgan as he experiences the infection first hand with the army before being taken to the HMAS Avenger. He and a small squad were mobilized into a larger force, known as Second Battalion. They were deployed amphibiously south of Wisdom Bay, whereupon they hiked through the jungle towards inland settlements, as their high command ordered them to supply 'humanitarian aid'. A master of unarmed fighting an martial arts, John Morgan joined the A.D.F and served with the S.A.S.R but was later thrown in prison for refusing to shoot innocent civilians. Little did he know he would end up joining the four original survivors to fight the zombie infection on Palanai Island. He has a wife, Jennifer, and two daughters, who end up staying with a woman called Mrs. Mary Rogers in Adelaide, Australia while John was away. Diary 01 - Second story building in the Paradise Survival Camp near the beach accessed bridge. “My name is John Morgan and I'm a Sergeant in the ADF. My squad and I were mobilized last night as part of the 2nd Battalion. We made an amphibious landing south of Wisdom Bay and are now preparing to hike into the jungle. Why we aren't taking the highway, the brass won't say. Something big is going on, but the powers that be are keeping it rather mysterious." "Our immediate superiors claim we're here to supply humanitarian aid, but then why are we so heavily armed? I'm making this audio diary not in any official capacity but for my family in the event that, for whatever reason, I do not make it out in one piece. I'm probably being overly dramatic and I see no reason why I wouldn't survive this operation, but there's something about all this that just...isn't sitting right with me. Alright, looks like we're heading out. Grab your gear, Johnson! Let's go, Miller! We're moving out!” Diary 02 - On the second floor of the Halai Village camp. “We're here in a remote village, inland on the Jaba River, and I don't know even know how to describe what's happening here. In fact, I probably shouldn't even be recording this, but it's not the first time I've violated proper protocol. Some sort of plague has swept the town and people are panicking. Those infected seem to have lost their bloody minds." "They become violent and aggressive and attack like rabid animals. They seem to feel no pain and nothing will put them down short of a bullet in the brain. The orders on high aren't making much sense and some of the men under my command are beginning to freak out. Not that I can blame them. Two hours ago we saw a young mother gnawing on her own bloody child. Jesus. They want us to keep everyone quarantined here and prevent their escape by any means necessary. When I asked them what that meant, they said do we have to spell it out? Miller! Behind you! Watch it! WATCH IT!” Diary 03 - Inside the four workbench building with the mud pump in Marik's Marina. A Rending Claws Mod blueprint in inside as well. “They had us abandon the village. They told us to get out immediately and I have no idea why. They say this infection is out of control and spreading across the island. I have family in Henderson, but no one will bloody tell me what's happening there. If they're so worried about containing the bloody infection, why would they tell us to evacuate." "They said we'd be safer...Do you hear that? Is that air support? Are they dropping supplies for the villagers? I hope so. Those people are starving. It makes sense they would have to drop supplies, since they blockaded the highway in and out of... Oh, my God...OH MY GOD, WHAT ARE THEY DOING? Are they firebombing the bloody village! Jesus Christ. They're burning them alive! This can't be right...What the hell are they doing?” Diary 04 - On the second floor of the Santa Maria Mission ruins. On the map, it's east of Pierre's Magasin, but you need to walk around the mountain to reach this ruin just past Kiwi Camping. “They bombed the bridges and roads to prevent any movement of the civilian population and now they are ordering us to kill any villagers who escaped the fire bombings. Not just the infected, but everyone. Men, women, children. My men are balking at this and I can't blame them. We're here to protect these people, not murder them. I told Colonel Ormsby, my commanding officer, that I would not order my men to murder innocent civilians." "Colonel Ormsby said refusal to follow orders would be considered gross insubordination and my men and I would be charged with desertion and arrested as traitors. Hold up, men. That looks like some sort of research facility ahead. At least that's what it is according to the map there. There could be food and supplies in there, but we need to -- Johnson, wait! Hold up, mate! We need to reconnoiter the area the before we... Oh, Jesus, what the bloody hell is that? Shoot it! Shoot! SHOOT!” Diary 05 - In Dr. Kessler's office in Dr. Kessler's Biosphere. Check the desk near the window. “Most of my squad is dead. Melby and Howard were lost in Kundera. Johnson was attacked by this abomination and Murphy put a bullet in him as his screams were raising the dead. At least they look and smell bloody dead, but how can that be? They came from the jungle...from everywhere... snarling like hungry animals. Miller panicked and ran into a whole mob of them." "They fell on him like rabid dogs. Tore him to pieces. The rest of us barely made it out alive. I was bitten on the shoulder and the others were sure the infection would take me as well. Soon after we went to sleep, Jenkins tried to murder me. I had no choice but to shoot the bloody maniac. Everyone is scared to death. At this point, I think our only option is Henderson. At least there's a military base there. Most of our families are there as well. I just hope the city is still safe.” Diary 06 - In the Japanese Tunnels. The room next to the room with the notes for side quest History Lesson. Climb the center radar tower to the top and check the collapsed offices for this diary on a shelf. “The infection hasn't taken me and I don't know why. The only reason my men haven't abandoned me is because they still think they need me. Everyone is our enemy. The civilians know the army has been slaughtering them and are fighting back. They shoot at us on sight, but I'm not about to shoot back. They're bloody frightened and who can blame them?" "I decided it would be best to avoid unnecessary confrontations, so we're traveling via the old Japanese WW2 tunnels. They were shut down years ago, so we have no idea of what's down here. The whole bloody world's gone crazy...so we're probably safer down here than we would be up there. Sh*t. What's that up ahead? Is that a person? Get to cover! We're under fire! We got some live ones!” Diary 07 - Front desk of the Makeshift Hospital. “We're trying to stay quiet as the Infected are everywhere. It's just the two of us now. Jack was bitten by something down in the tunnels. We're both hoping he'll be fine as I seem to still be all right. Maybe some of us are immune to this plague. We're at the ferry, but it doesn't seem to be operational." "Jack has family in Henderson as well. We need to find a boat to get us across. I just hope the military doesn't shoot us out of the water. I mean, who can we trust? The citizens despise us and the army considers us traitors. And then there's the Infected. To them we're just meat. I'd better quiet down. Don't want 'em to hear me.” Diary 08 - South of the Old Town Cinema outside of the Infested Warehouse on the pile of tables. “Jack attacked me last night. I beat him back and tied him up. I couldn't bring myself to kill him, even though the disease has taken him. He saved my life back in the jungle and I can't just put him down like a rabid dog. Maybe there's a cure for this. I mean, there has to be, right? There has to be something. We're at the lighthouse in Henderson and the city itself is in chaos." "There's a huge quarantine area that's full to bloody bursting with the dead. I don't know what else to call them. They don't seem human. I just can't believe this is what it's come to. I haven't seen any other soldiers and the citizens we have seen are cowering inside. I see 'em watching me through the boarded up windows. I'm guessing the army is hiding as well, holed up in their base, afraid to bloody come out.” Diary 09 - On a fruit crate in an alley just west of Frankie O'Hara's Dead Zone entrance. “My family is gone. My wife. My two girls. Jen left a note behind for me. Just in case I came looking for them. Apparently, the lines went down and she had no way to contact me. So she packed up the kids and left Henderson for the airport. She's trying to get to Australia. She has an aunt in Adelaide. I just hope to God they weren't on that fu**ing highway when the army dropped those bombs." "If they were caught in that... if the military slaughtered my family... I swear to God I will find out who issued that order and I will put a bullet in their fu**ing head. Sh*t, somebody's in here. Back in the girl's room. I'd better check... just in case... Jesus Christ. Was that Mr. Barranca? Was that my god*amn next door neighbor? Oh, Jesus... Jesus, another one.” Diary 10 - Southwest Henderson, just north of Jorge in a small temporary camp/safe zone with this diary. The Meat Bait blueprint is nearby as well. “My name is John Morgan, a Sergeant in the ADF, and I'm leaving this recording here because I do not trust the army to get it to my wife... if she's even still alive. Whoever finds this, please try to get this to Jennifer Ann Morgan. She's staying with a Mrs. Mary Rogers in Adelaide, Australia. Alright, Jen, this is for you. I just want you to know that... You and the girls... You're everything to me. And I'm so sorry I wasn't there to protect you. That you had to face this alone." "This morning... I found a little boy hiding in a car. Couldn't be more than five. His parents must have locked him in there to protect him. Who knows what the hell happened to them. I have decided that I have no choice but to take him to the army base. I have nowhere else to turn. What other option do I have? Jen, it's likely they'll arrest me for going AWOL, but at least if they court-martial me, I can finally tell my side of the story. Tell them what went on." "People need to know what happened here! It's okay, son. Shhhh. I'm not mad at you. It's gonna be okay. You're gonna be fine. Everything's gonna be okay. Good boy.” The Angela Guerra recordings are a series of collectable audio logs in Dead Island: Riptide. There are a total of 10 recordings in the series. Introduction: The different tapes can be viewed via the Collectables in-game menu. The recordings are one of the eligible collectables used to gain the achievement The Collector, and are required to gain the achievements The Hoarder and News Junkie. She is never seen in game, but you can follow her story via the number of tape recorders she has left behind as she travels to Henderson to try and escape the outbreak. Angela Guerra Bio: She hails from Los Angeles, California in America as the daughter of her parents Mike and Blanca Guerra. She joined the Peace Corps to see the world with her husband Paul. She's shown as being a compassionate and dedicated woman, very grateful of the kindness shown by the villagers whom she has stayed with. She had been living in a village in the Eastern Highlands of Palanai Island for two years when the outbreak occurred and somehow infected Paul. She fled the hut they were staying in as Paul turned and tried to bite her. She meets up with a group of survivors and heads into the highlands, experiencing first hand the apocalypse and witnessing an infected boy get killed. As they travel, their number gets whittled down by zombie attacks, including a man named Bill who shot himself with a shotgun rather than turn into an undead. They finally reach the lab where they loose another member, John, to an attack, who also decides to shoot himself rather than turn. Upon Angela getting angry and swearing, Dr. Kessler hears her and lets them rest briefly in the lab. They soon leave, but Angela isn't too upset, as she doesn't trust the scientist, stating 'I don't trust this Kessler. They move on and decide to try to reach Henderson, hoping to seek shelter in the military base. There are signs of paranoia with in the group, as one of their number, Tom, is feverish despite not being bitten. Angela believes it to just be Malaria or something similar, but the others of the group are now very wary of anyone showing signs of an illness in case it's the virus. They stop for the night and, knowing what they are all thinking, Tom hung himself during the night to try and prevent himself turning, despite not knowing if it was the zombie virus. A storm had rolled in as they left Tom's body there and made their way to the ferry terminal. When they got there, zombies covered the area and they only just got onto the ferry when they had to shout to hear each other over the rain. She also notices the aircraft flying overhead that John Morgan noticed in his own set of diary recordings. Upon reaching Henderson, the group learns that people are panicking and martial law has been declared. Despite the roadways being bombed, infected are still getting in by floating over the river, infecting more and more people. Angela (presumably her group has either separated or been killed, as they are not mentioned beyond this point) makes her way to Cecil's Hospital and has started to use her Peace Corp training to help him with his patients. At some point after this, she leaves and makes her way to the military base for help and to see whether the army was successful in taking back the city. Due to the base sirens you can hear in her final recording, it is presumed that she was in the base at the time it fell, likely perishing with any other survivors in it. TAPE 01 - A beach bungalow northwest of the spawn point for the beginning of the game just after completing The Storm or beginning Chapter 1. The door to the bungalow is barricaded from the inside, but the Hero can enter by climbing the hill just behind the bungalow, going towards the Paradise Survival Camp. About halfway up the hill, the Hero can jump down and enter the bungalow from the beach. There is also a metal chest inside the bungalow, along with some minor health items and other containers with loot. To exit the bungalow, the barricade must be removed from the rear entrance. “My name is Angela Guerra. My husband Paul and I are Peace Corps Volunteers. We've been in Palanai, working in a small village in the Eastern Highlands that had no electricity or phones. It has been an amazing time and they taught us so much more than we taught them. But after two years, we will soon be on our way home." "Unfortunately, a strange illness has swept through the village and that may delay our departure. The symptoms come on suddenly, and the sufferer is stricken almost immediately. That's why I'm recording this. To document what is happening here. My husband has been down with whatever this illness is since last night. He's dizzy. He's feverish. I'm really starting to worry. Paul? Are you all right? (long pause) Why are you looking at me like that...?” TAPE 02 - Inside the Jaba River house in Mataka Village. “I'm with a group of survivors and we're on foot, heading into the highlands. Paul... Paul was so feverish he was out of his head. It's like he didn't even know who I was. He attacked me. Tried to bite me. I ran for help, but it was insane. People were screaming and fighting and crying. And this little boy -- he couldn't have been more than ten -- leaped on me and tried to bite me." "I pushed him away and a man -- a grown man -- chopped his head off with a machete. Oh, my God. What is happening here? Some said that the people who lost their minds were dead. Dead? Like zombies? Well, I went back and tried to find Paul, but he was gone and I have no idea what happened to him.” TAPE 03 - In the back of Miya's camp in the north. “We lost one of our group last night. Bill. He was sleeping right by the fire when he was attacked. She looked like an old woman, but she moved so fast. Half her left arm was gone. You could see the bone, white in the fire light. And she made the most terrible growling gurgling sound. Blood ran down her face and she still had Bill's flesh still in her teeth. Zico hit her in the head with a shovel. But she got up again, and he hit her again and again until finally, he...he decapitated her." "She looked like she was seventy years old. Most of her clothes had been torn off. Some say it's Kuru, that cannibal disease, but how is that possible? These people are dying and they are resurrecting. Well, Bill was badly hurt. He was afraid the disease would take him, and he did not want to become one of them. So he grabbed Gabriel's shotgun, put it in his mouth and...the sound was so loud. We knew it would attract other Infected. So we ran. Into the dark. Into the jungle. There aren't many of us left.” TAPE 04 - On the outer edge of a platform at Kingston's Shack, near a metal chest. “I had just about lost all hope when I saw it. Some kind of research facility. John went running for it, and that was a mistake. Something came out of the woods and attacked him. It was huge and covered in these festering boils. I'd seen some terrible things, but nothing like this. We beat the poor creature down and Zico split its skull. John was badly hurt. Barely alive. He begged me to put a bullet in his head...so he wouldn't resurrect. I couldn't do it. I couldn't." "So I handed him the gun...and he...Jesus. After that, I just lost it. I screamed. I swore. I was so god*amn angry. And that's when a man came out of the facility. He heard me cursing, so he knew I wasn't sick. He was so surprised to see us. His name is Dr. Kessler, and I know that should be grateful that he took us in, but there's something off about him." "He's involved in some sort of research project, but he seems very evasive. He says we can't stay long, as he doesn't have enough food for all of us. Tom wants to force the issue, but I don't trust this Kessler.” TAPE 05 - In the south eastern part of the Halai Village. “The people of Palanai are so kind. In the village where Paul and I were assigned, they lived such simple lives. They lived in huts and grew their own food, and I taught them how to read English and do simple math. And in the evenings, it would be time for tok stori. We would all tell stories. It's a big tradition here. Once I showed them pictures from home. Of L.A. And they saw two homeless men on Hollywood Boulevard, crude signs propped between their legs." "They asked me what they were doing and I told them they were homeless and they didn't understand. The concept made no sense to them. How could they be homeless? They said if I would bring them here, they would build them huts and plant them gardens, and their generosity was so genuine it made me cry. Is our society really more civilized than theirs? What do I have to teach them? They should be teaching me...” Tape 06 - Inside the bunker south of the Biosphere. “We knew we couldn't stay with Dr. Kessler. We asked him to come with us, but he's determined to stay. I don't know, maybe we can send help for him once we reach Henderson. There's a military base there and if there's anywhere that's still safe, that's probably it. The rain has been steady and it's coming down harder and the river is starting to rise. We're all worried the road will wash out before we can make our way there. The mosquitos are eating us alive." "Tom seems feverish and I see how the others are looking at him. He says he hasn't been bitten, but this is clearly a blood-borne disease. Couldn't it be transmitted by mosquito? I mean, why would it be any different from malaria or West Nile virus? And if that's true, we all might have it and any one of us could turn at any moment.” Tape 07 - The locked warehouse across from the ferry station. “When we woke up this morning, Tom was dead. He hung himself. It was so horrible. But the rain was coming down so hard and waters were rising, so we didn't have time to cut him down or bury him. I didn't think we'd make it here. Mud was roaring down the hills like black lava. I never knew a mudslide made so much noise." There were boulders bigger than cars and the trees were cracking and snapping. It was terrifying and with the pounding rain, we had to shout to even hear each other. We barely made it to the ferry and the undead were everywhere. Military planes are flying overhead, but where are the soldiers? Where are the authorities? Maybe we'll find some answers in Henderson.” Tape 08 - The open courtyard west of Old Town Cinema. “The people here in Henderson are terrified. They know as much as we do. Clearly there's no stopping this. The military instituted martial law and part of the city has been quarantined, but it doesn't seem to be helping. The infection just keeps spreading. The dead wash ashore and rise up and attack like wounded animals. The soldiers try to put them down, but there are so many." "They have no idea what's happening either. They're getting conflicting orders. No one seems to know who's in charge. It's crazy. People are getting desperate and I'm really afraid. Most of the soldiers are so young. They're as terrified as everyone else. I'm here with a group of survivors, hiding out here in an abandoned store, hoping that the army will send in reinforcements and finally get the upper hand.” Tape 09 - On the table in the southernmost part of Henderson. “Some say that Henderson is lost and that soon the few survivors left will be at each other's throats over the last of the food and water. But I don't know about that. There's a deep sense of community here and not everyone has given up. There's a doctor, Dr. Cecil, who set up a field hospital. I'm doing everything I can to help him and we're making a difference." That's why I joined the Peace Corps. To help people. So that's what I'm doing. Besides, it's better to keep busy. When I close my eyes and try to rest, all I can think about are all the horrible things I've seen. I have too much to do to dwell on any of that. I have people here who need me.” Tape 10 - In a tent in a field hospital in the Military Base. “This is Angela Guerra and I'm leaving this audio diary in case... just in case something happens to me. The military base is in trouble. You can hear alarm sirens going off and all kinds of explosions. I thought they would help us. I thought they would protect us. But they can't even protect themselves. If you find this recording, please get it to Mike and Blanca Guerra in Woodland Hills, California. Mom... Dad... I know you didn't want me to come here. I know you didn't understand why I wanted to leave L.A. and join the Peace Corps. I'm sorry I disappointed you. I just... I wanted to see the world. Have an adventure. Make a difference! I'm so sorry...” Introduction:There are a total of nine files in the series. Each file contains a different top secret file revealing a portion of the background behind the outbreak. After finding a secret file, it can be re-viewed via the Collectables in-game menu. ⭐ SECRET FILE 01: In Halai Village, the file is under the bed in a small bedroom on the ground floor of the traders building with an Oleander shrine. "According to C, the group of immune subjects from Banoi are alive and on their way to the HMAS Avenger. C convinced them to find and secure the native woman known as Subject 1 and transport her to the research facility in the jungle. Tests were run, but conclusions weren't reached." "Dr. W managed to isolate the pathogen and combine it with the mutagen. Colonel W injected himself, mistakenly believing it was a vaccine. The results were quite promising. Research is continuing on Palanai, but C will be debriefed as it is believed his ambitions and aims weren't entirely aligned with those of our organization.” ⭐ SECRET FILE 02: In Halai Village, next to the Liquid Fire Mod in the shack where Father Marcus tells you to go in "Where the Dead Live". “Our high-level political players have instructed the military as to what we need done. The commanders on the ground in Palanai have been instructed to follow our lead. Mr. S is in Henderson, coordinating efforts as all active operatives are now in motion. Mr. M has had a conversation with General B and he has ordered his troops to stand down to allow the test to proceed unimpeded.” ⭐ SECRET FILE 03: In the drug lab in the middle of the flooded jungle for the side mission White Line (east of Hanging Joe's and south of Peter Spicer's Shack at the Breri Outpost). It will be to the west of the treehouse Maggie asks you to check first in Safe Haven. Getting the boat isn't required, but makes the trip much faster. “Confirmation from Mr. S that the immunes have arrived from Banoi and are now on the HMAS Avenger. The subjects are apparently unharmed and have been put into medical isolation. Mr. S is personally supervising the antibody testing and has been instructed to send C back to headquarters for debriefing. The fifth immune identified by the military is also being held on the vessel and has already been tested. Research on the island is proving apace and the vessel will soon be leaving the archipelago.” ⭐ SECRET FILE 04: In Dr. Kessler's Biosphere, check the hallway between the office and the shower/decontamination room for this file. “The field laboratory in Henderson has been testing the mutagen and the results on those Infected have been consistent with Dr. W's research in Banoi and the historical records of the Japanese military and what they encountered fifty years earlier. This advanced strain of Kuru is believed to have originated in Palanai, but was brought to Banoi by native raiders centuries ago. The effects of the pathogen mutated with an antigenic shift as multiple strains combined over time, creating what is virtually a super virus.” ⭐ SECRET FILE 05: In the Chief smuggler's quarters within the tunnels next to one of the bunking mattresses. “Even though the Geneva Protocol prohibited the use of chemical or biological warfare, there is evidence that the Japanese used both against the Chinese during World War 2. Mustard gas and other such weapons were stockpiled in the tunnels of Palanai during the war and the strong mutagenic effects of mustard gas and other chemical agents altered the virus, turning those infected with the pathogen into monstrous, ravenous beasts." "Those same chemical agents had a different, no less detrimental effect on those who were Infected, but clearly immune. We are currently researching both pathogenic mutations in our field laboratory in Henderson.” ⭐ SECRET FILE 06: The military base west of the cinema. The files are in the outpost's communication building. In the room with the second Grenadier in a series of small office rooms. “Our attention in the pathogen was ignited by a study by two scientists in Palanai. The paper, by Kessler and Villa, touched on early tribal religions, beliefs, and practices based on the effects of Kuru disease on the indigenous population. They did research on the Japanese invasion in the 1940's and the mutagenic effect of chemical weapons." "The journal that published the paper was obscure, but not so obscure that our analysts didn't flag it. Kessler was amenable to our overtures for more information, but Villa was suspicious and could prove to be a problem.” ⭐ SECRET FILE 07: The military base west of the cinema. The files are next to the fast-travel map, on the table with the shotgun spawn. “A research team was dispatched to Banoi and the pathogen was isolated and tested, but unfortunately the pathogen proved difficult to control. It was decided that a new test needed to be initiated on the island where the pathogen probably originated, Palanai. It's an External Territory of the Australian Commonwealth, unlike Banoi, which is independent." "Our political contacts and our contracts with the military allow us more latitude in running an operation on the island. Our consultants believe this test will prove the efficacy of the pathogen and show us a possible path to profitability." ⭐ SECRET FILE 08: Check the seats next to the mini-gun pylon on the port side of the crashed chopper (in Chapter 11) at the Fort of Henderson. “Mr. S managed to escape the HMAS Avenger before it was lost at sea and joined Captain P on HMAS Holland. The military on Henderson is in disarray and some of the commanders in the field are questioning and countermanding their orders." "A few are operating independently and threatening to derail our testing. Mr. M has been instructed to proceed with protocol 5 as General B is no longer cooperating. Mr. S considers the military base in Henderson to be an acceptable loss.” ⭐ SECRET FILE 09: In the boxes near the workbench at the last part of Henderson's QZ, atop the stairs from the Docks portal. “The immune subjects from Banoi contacted Mr. S from the military base in Henderson. Mr. S led an extraction team to pull them out. He indicated that they were mistrustful of his motives after their medical testing on the HMAS Avenger, but Mr. S assured us that he could gain their trust and convince them that he has offered them their only option of escape." "Mr. S understands how important it is that we have the immune subjects in our custody as antibody testing is essential if we are to create a vaccine, a necessary step in the production of any effective biological weapon." The Guides:Delving into the origins of the virus believed to be the cause of the zombie outbreak in Banoi & Palanai. Introduction: Pathogen HK is a stronger, faster-acting variant of the endemic disease Kuru, and is the biological agent responsible for the zombie outbreak in Banoi Island. Pathogen HK received its name after members of the Consortium discovered strains of Stage 2 HIV and Stage 2 Kuru within the virus. The Consortium Explained (Part 1):While the origins and history of the organisation still remain largely a mystery, they are more than willing to resort to highly unethical and amoral research, often revolving around the purposes of manufacturing and selling biological weapons, and even commit criminal acts on a massive scale to obtain their goals. Specifically by the start of the series, the organisation, after being alerted by theirs labs in the area, seeks to weaponize a highly mutated form of the Kuru disease that began to plague the native tribes within the Banoi Archipelago; a disease born from the cannibalistic tendencies of those same tribes occupying the islands, and sell it as a biological weapon to various military organisations across the globe. Projecting the profits that could be secured by selling a weaponized version of the disease to be in the billions, the Consortium went to great lengths to develop and test such a weapon. Seeing the archipelago as a highly lucrative opportunity, the Consortium constructed several labs to be be used by GeoPharm, a scientific research corporation under their control, to conduct inhumane experiments, including human testing, to discover the full potential of the virus. The labs were mainly built in secluded locations in order to ensure the highly unethical and illegal nature of the research and experiments were kept away from the public eye. Eventually, after several infected were captured and studied within the labs per the Consortium's orders, the researchers discovered the true cause of the recent disease plague: Pathogen HK, a much stronger and faster variant of Stage 2 Kuru, Stage 2 HIV and others diseases that combined and mutated together over the course of many years and originated from the cannibalistic lifestyles of the local tribes. The deadly disease quickly contaminates any infected individual and kills them, leaving only their most primitive brain functions active, while the host becomes highly aggressive and prone to attack and devour any uninfected individuals and could easily spread the disease to others via blood and salvia. Thus, one victim could easily start a chain reaction that could infect an entire population in mere minutes. Greatly intrigued and unable to pass up such a viable opportunity, the Consortium assembled an international team to carry out further experiments and isolate a stable specimen of the pathogen to be weaponized. The potential of adapting this new disease into a biological weapon was seen as world-changing and highly lucrative by the Consortium, quickly becoming their top priority, and they immediately ordered for further studies to be conducted in order to asses the pathogen and begin the process of creating prototype mutagens. To this end, the organisation needed to further understand the pathogen's properties, how quickly it spreads, and if it can be controlled, and began to plan out several tests in order to obtain the answers that they sought to these questions. Equipment and teams were sent to their labs across the archipelago and preparations were even made to orchestrate outbreaks on some of the islands, as the Consortium saw them as ideal locations to test and observe the effects of the disease, mutations, and any weaponized versions they develop, seeing the economic ramifications from the resulting death and destruction to be at a minimum on islands that were isolated from the rest of the world and thus also much easier to contain and control. The outbreaks would also serve as the most ideal tests in order to asses how the disease and mutagens function once exposed to a populace, allowing the Consortium to perfect a bio-weapon that would pave the way for immense profitability. However, in order for the virus to be a viable biological weapon for military organisations and applications, a vaccine would also need to be developed. To this end, the organisation eventually learned through their continued experiments that a small portion of individuals, all with type O negative blood, seem to be immune to the virus and that their blood could be the instrumental key to developing a vaccine. The Consortium then made plans to lure a handful of such individuals to the Banoi island by first initiating a nationwide blood drive to locate viable individuals and then invite them to the Resort on the island via various communications. A total of nine such individuals were found and lured to the island via invitation communications to the resort for a two week vacation, free of charge, claiming they were entered into a random drawing for the free vacation when they participated in the blood drive It is implied in the prequel comic that the Consortium also made dealings with the corrupt manager of the resort, Kenneth Ballard, who often used the hotel as a front for illicit and illegal activities, in order to facilitate the arrival of the immune at his resort, as he had files and photos of several of the immune in his office. Employing their covert operative, Kevin "Charon" Barrister, a notorious terrorist hacker for hire who was transported to the maximum security prison near the island, and GeoPharm scientist Dr. Robert West, located in GeoPharm's laboratory in Banoi's dense jungles and away from prying eyes, the organisation ordered these two to work together to create an initial prototype of the weaponized virus mutagen and lure the immune to the lab to use their blood to create a viable vaccine. The Consortium Explained (Part 2):Unknown to the Consortium, Charon had his own plans to create only the weaponized virus. Not caring about developing a corresponding vaccine, Charon planned to spread the virus on a global level as a twisted form of revenge over the organisation for their greed and the role they played in the death of his father, Dr. Chase Barrister, previously the co-founder of GeoPharm before it fell under the control of the Consortium and their inhumane experiments claimed his life as well, partially to make an example out of him for his refusal to cooperate with their operations. The organisation had soon set its sights on Kevin's mother as well, seeing her as a loose end needed to be tied up, and while Kevin was able to hide and protect her, it came at a cost. Charon's various logs imply that his mother was horribly mutilated, most likely as an unwilling subject in the Consortium's experiments before Kevin saved her, with her pain and the loss of his father fuelling his hatred. Kevin's notorious career as a hacker for hire working with various terrorist organisations was simply a means to get noticed by the Consortium and hired in their employ, adopting the alias of "Charon" as a symbol of his lust to ferry the souls of his father's killers to their afterlife. Having effectively infiltrated the Consortium, not being recognised as the son of one of the GeoPharm's co-founders, Charon planned to create the weaponized virus and use it to destroy the organisation, along with most of the world, from within as a twisted form of poetic justice. Around the same time as the selected and lured nine immune stayed at the resort, the virus plague on the island of Banoi went violently out of control, no longer just infecting the highland tribes but the entire island in an outbreak and killing and reanimating thousands of tourists, resort employees, and island residents alike. The resulting social chaos added to the carnage, with the authorities being completely wiped out while bandits and criminals took advantage of the destruction to further their own desires to steal and murder without restriction. It is heavily implied that the outbreak was deliberately initiated by the Consortium, who would later be directly responsible for a second outbreak just days later, to further test the potential of the virus and lure both infected and the immune into their labs for research. Evidence to support this is the organisation's equipment being moved to the islands and their agents setting contingencies in place weeks prior to the outbreak to prevent significant army intervention. With the outbreak gaining global attention and causing worldwide panic, the Banoi Island Defense Force quarantined the archipelago and would eventually call for a nuclear strike on Banoi if the situation continued to worsen. Previously knowing this and not wanting to let all their research go to waste, the Consortium pulled strings within the government and military to ensure Colonel Ryder White, previously observed by two agents of the organisation to be a viable pawn in their plans, would be selected as the officer to be deployed to Banoi, knowing that he would hesitate to order a nuclear strike as his wife Emily worked within the maximum security prison as the chief medical officer, allowing the organisation's operatives time to develop both a virus mutagen and vaccine. To further ensure this, the Consortium orchestrated an outbreak within the prison complex as well, at which point Charon pretended to help Emily during a resulting riot by saving her from various inmates and infected and then secretly unlocking the security door to the barricaded laboratory they were in, which allowed an infected to get in and bite Emily before Charon killed it. Once his commanding officer declared Banoi a lost cause and should be firebombed as soon as all military personnel evacuated, White travelled to the prison to find Emily, refusing to call in the firebombers until he confirmed her safety. Eventually meeting Charon who informed the colonel of his wife's condition, White agreed to work with the hacker, despite knowing his criminal history, to save Emily. With his wife infected and Charon guiding him for his own purposes, White would do everything in his power to create a vaccine. With more than half of the lured immune on the island claimed by the social chaos, Charon posed as Ryder White on the island's communication channels to make contact and gain the trust of the remaining four immune (Logan Carter, rapper Sam B, Xian Mei, and ex-police officer Purna Jackson) and lure them to the GeoPharm lab where Dr. West would work with them to develop a vaccine and, unknown to the immune, a prototype of the mutagen. While the immune unknowingly helped to create the mutagen with the use of patient zero of the Pathogen HK disease, Yerema, Charon remotely disabled the locks of the infected cages in the lab to kill Dr. West and the other scientists after the former stated his intention to develop a vaccine per his orders from the Consortium. Charon, who only lusted to unleash the virus across the world, did not want the scientists to create a vaccine and thus had them killed in his first visible act of betrayal against his employers. Charon, still posing as White over the radio, then directed the immune to obtain the mutagen from the lab, lying to them by claiming it was the vaccine, and to meet him at the prison to escape the island. With all the pieces finally in place, Charon continued to manipulate White and had him gas the immune at the prison elevator to knock them out and steal what White thought was the vaccine. White hoped to use the vaccine on his wife, but Charon, wanting to preserve the mutagen, informed the colonel that Emily was too far gone. White refused to believe this and, having learned that Charon had been impersonating him, destroyed the radio, locked Charon in the control room, and planned to leave the island with the now zombified Emily to work on a full vaccine. Improvising, Charon escaped the control room with a spare key card he had hidden away and then met with the immune and turned them against White, lying to them that the colonel was planning to nuke the entire island after leaving with his wife and the vaccine. The resulting confrontation led to White being forced to kill the reanimated Emily, as well as Jin who released the zombified Emily to attack White, after she bit him and use the mutagen on himself, still thinking it was the vaccine. With the mutagen turning White into a superhuman infected, the immune killed the colonel and left the island with Charon in White's chopper. While the mutagen was used and destroyed with White's death, Charon now had Yerema, the source of the initial Pathogen HK plague on Banoi, with him and planned to use her to continue in the experiments and spread the virus on a global level. The Consortium Explained (Part 3):While the mutagen developed on Banoi was destroyed with White, the Consortium saw massive potential in the resulting mutation but also recognized the complications in controlling the mutagen and were eager to implement another test in order to further research and perfect a weaponized version of the Kuru disease. Per the Consortium's orders, Charon piloted the chopper to the HMAS Avenger, a military patrol ship located off the coast of Banoi and where another Consortium operative, civilian VIP Frank Serpo, was stationed. While the ship was under the command of Lt. Colonel Samuel Hardy, Serpo's affiliation with the Consortium enabled him to control the colonel and his military forces for their own ends. Taking the immune to the lower decks for further experiments and research, Serpo sent Yerema to another facility for specialised testing and had Charon relocated to the Consortium's headquarters, per their orders, where the hacker would be debriefed on the next steps of their plans. At this point in time, the organisation was also beginning to suspect Charon had his own agenda, one that did not fully align with their plans, but were still intent on working with him given his invaluable skills towards meeting their own objectives. Before further concrete findings could be found on the immune and they could be transported to a secure facility outside the archipelago for vaccine development, another outbreak, born from Yerema biting a solider restraining her and thus infecting him, and a monsoon caused the ship to lose control and crash near the island of Palanai. Serpo was able to evacuate from the ship in time and began to oversee the research being conducted by Dr. Kessler on Palanai, which was believed to be the original birthplace of the Kuru disease before raiders brought it over to Banoi, where it eventually heavily mutated into the deadly Pathogen HK variant, centuries ago. Specifically, the organisation was eager to test the effects of the infected with chemical weapons, left behind in bunkers from when Japan occupied the island during World War II, to create an even stronger variation of the mutagen developed on Banoi, using Japanese research conducted during the war as the basis of these experiments. Dr. Kessler came to the attention of Serpo and the Consortium after reading a paper authored by him and his associate, Marcus Villa, before the two had a falling out, that detailed the potential of the chemicals being combined with the various diseases that have plagued the island tribes. While Villa was unsuitable to serve as a viable pawn due to his renouncement of his previous research, Kessler, while generally viewed as a decent and ethical man by the island populace, allowed his curiosity to get the better of him and agreed to aid the Consortium and Serpo in their experiments. To serve as a viable test, the Consortium ordered Serpo to cause another outbreak, this time on Palanai island, in order to observe the progression of this new mutation, effectively sacrificing the island's entire population as guinea pigs, while also instructing him to win the trust of the immune to complete the original plan of using their blood to create a vaccine. While it is unknown if Dr. Kessler was aware that the outbreak was a direct consequence of the Consortium's orders, he nonetheless continued in their research within his Biosphere, which also suffered an outbreak that killed all his scientists, an incident which the doctor claimed was due to the carelessness of his staff, though the immune are suspicious as to whether it was indeed simply an accident or another twisted experiment to further test the virus mutations. Further experiments on the mutagen developed on Banoi also continued with several tests being employed on human subjects within a field laboratory in Henderson while several prototype vaccines based off the initial research of the immune were developed and tested on various infected within a lab in the Quarantine Zone. The resulting mutations from these experiments were consistent with the research previously conducted by Dr. West while the vaccine test trials all resulted in horrific deaths for the test subjects, further reinforcing the need for the immune to be captured for further experiments. With Palanai being an External Territory of the Australian Commonwealth, unlike Banoi, which was independent, the political and military contacts of the organisation were also able to ensure that the military would largely stand down during this outbreak, preventing nuclear action, in order to ensure the full results of the outbreak, now combined with chemical weapon exposure, could be fully observed and tested. However, some military personnel, including Lt. Colonel Hardy, went against these orders out of morals and conscience, resulting in Hardy's death at Serpo's hands and the destruction of the military base in Henderson, all under the orders of the Consortium. While another mutagen was created and partially tested on WHO researcher Harlow Jordan, who was captured by the research staff while she was investigating the Quarantine Zone lab and forcibly used as a test subject, these plans failed when Harlow went into a crazed rage, killed the researchers, and was ultimately killed herself by the immune after they injected the mutagen into themselves in order to defend themselves against her. Serpo was left by the immune, realising his true nature, to be killed by the infected while they escaped the island on a boat. While the immune's ultimate fate is not known, the Consortium is most likely far from finished in their unethical research despite these failed attempts. With Charon, who was seemingly continuing with his own plans for global panic and destruction, still in their employ and new findings into the world-changing and immensely lucrative potential of the virus, the Consortium still saw massive promise in a weaponized virus and would likely continue to remain a massive, unseen threat to the world as they continued in their attempts and lust to develop the biological weapon. Origins of GeoPharm & The Laboratories:GeoPharm is a corporation dedicated to commercial scientific research. It is the owner of the Laboratory in the Jungle area of the Banoi Island, however it has various buildings and complexes all across the Banoi Archipelago. According to Dr. West, it was an organisation for "researching and testing various cosmetics away from prying eyes". This likely involved animal testing, a fact mentioned in Dead Island: The Book where animals are seen in cages, as well as in the main game where West mentions their previous lab which was firebombed by animal rights activists. GeoPharm is far from a morally high company, as they are very shady, using a lot of animal testing for their products and other such shady business practices. Several of their labs have been attacked by activists and Cliff Calo was traveling to the island of Narapela with his friends to investigate shady practices being performed at the labs there. However, according to both Charon's and Ronald's logs, the corporation was once much more idealistic when it was initially founded by Ronald Crown and Chase Barrister. The company worked to create vaccines and medications to cure some of the most fatal diseases known to the world. However, the goals and ethics of the company began to drastically change once they were brought under the control of the Consortium and Palm Garden Order, massive and global secret organizations, in order to leverage the corporation's resources for their own ends. Emory Crown, having replaced his father as CEO through intimation and Ronald dying shortly after as a result, approved of the new leadership and even facilitated it. Having been persuaded by the Order to leverage his father's company and research for their own experiments, Emory saw lucrative opportunities in the future while Chase was against it due to the amoral nature of the organization. Specifically, the Consortium was much more interested in researching and weaponizing diseases and viruses in order to be sold to military organizations throughout the globe for the price of billions of dollars. Any developments on vaccines were strictly kept on hold until after biological weapons were developed, as they could not be sold without a viable vaccine also available. To make matters worse, Consortium was also not against using animals and even humans as test subjects to perfect their experiments and research. While it could never be directly proven to the public, due to Consortium's high connections in government and law agencies, countless rumors persisted, leading to GeoPharm to earn a somewhat notorious reputation and even leading to some of their labs being attacked and firebombed by animal and humanitarian activists. Consequently, many of their labs were built in secluded locations in order to ensure that their inhumane experiments were kept away from the prying eyes of the public and media. A pivotal moment in the history of GeoPharm came with the death of founder Chase Barrister, heavily implied to be a casualty of the inhumane experiments at the hands of Emory Crown to remove him as an obstacle in the organization's projects. This caused a psychotic and genocidal hatred of GeoPharm and the Consortium in Chase's son, Kevin, seeing them as greedy monsters who represented the worst of humanity. Over the years, Kevin developed plans to infiltrate the organization in order to destroy them from the inside out with the use of their biological weapons. As the Consortium was a global organization, their destruction would also ensure much of the world would descend into complete chaos and destruction. To this end, Kevin, having learned much from his father, used his unique hacking skills to offer himself as an invaluable asset to various terrorist organizations throughout the world. Kevin used the alias "Charon," born from his desire to ferry the souls of his father's killers into the afterlife, to conduct his illegal, international activities. His true end goal was to become so notorious that the Consortium would take notice of his unique skills and employ him as a covert operative in their own operations. True to Kevin's predictions, the Consortium eventually offered him a role in their organization, not realizing that he was the son of one of GeoPharm's founders. Origins of The Virus:According to emails sent between Consortium members Wong, Androv and Goss, Pathogen HK is transmitted through blood, and thus physical injuries. Once inside a host's system, it will incubate for a period of hours or days. Meanwhile, the virus' host will experience indescribable pain, while his or her mental abilities gradually diminish, up to a point where the host will be completely unable to speak properly. Once dead, only the host's primary mental capacities will remain, turning the host into a zombie-like being, driven only by its instinct to feed upon uninfected beings. Whether such a reaction is caused by fear or rage is largely unknown. It appears that as a human goes through the Zombification process, they will be extremely fast and aggressive, but as the infected human goes through the process, they will Slow down and gain more health. It appears that stronger men, when infected, will become more stronger and brutish zombies than walkers. It also appears that a few special strains of the virus have emerged, leaving infected individuals Covered in explosive gas bubbles, Extremely taller and stronger than other infected, or Faster and deadlier than other infected. Also, being in or submerged in water during the time of zombification will result in other types of Zombies beside the Walker, being in water will result in the Drowner and being submerged in water will result in the Floater. Chemical radiation also appears to change infected individuals, being in around greenhouse gasses and other types of chemicals create the Grenadier and touching chemicals found in The Japanese Tunnels appear to create The strongest zombie of them all, the Wrestler, however, this may be untrue and it could be another strain of the virus, as several wrestlers appear all over the place in Henderson and the docks. It is also unknown if the Screamer is made from a chemical reaction or a different strain of the virus, saying the Screamers were tested on before infection, it is possible that they were chemically tested on too. Apparently, it is possible for animals to become infected as well, as heard in one of Roger Howard's audio recordings in which he and his driver are attacked by an infected orangutan after accidentally hitting it with their car and crashing it. Description of The Disease:Based on cut content of the "Organization" (a.k.a. Consortium), detailing emails between Wong, Andropov, and Goss. Email 1: "Apparently, a strain of some new and, as yet, unclassified virus is tearing through the highland tribes on the island of Banoi. The infected show symptoms similar to the local affliction Kuru, but the incubation period appears to be hours and days rather than years. The symptoms exhibited are analogous to rabies or mad cow, but much more violent and severe. After the carrier’s death, only the most primitive functions of the brain remain active, turning the victim into a violent animal operating on pure instinct. Whether it’s fear or fury, the victim is compelled to attack those who have yet to contract the infection. The disease is transmitted by blood or bodily fluid, most often during a physical attack. Attached photos show an infected individual in each stage of the illness." Email 2: "Andropov has requested that some of the infected be captured so this virus can be studied more closely. Trace the source of this virus, prepare a report, and judge the feasibility of weaponizing it. Certain questions need to be answered. For instance, what is the most common mode of transmission? Can this transmission be controlled? What is the speed and rate of infection? What is the average incubation period? How long from first visible symptoms until death? Once the feasibility of its use as a weapon can be determined, profit projections can be ascertained." Email 3: "The bodies of the patients 1 through 3 exhibit indications of clinical asymptomatic Stage 2 HIV as well as Stage 2 Kuru. As is typical with any transmissible spongiform encephalopathy, the cerebral cortex has been eaten away, permeated with thousands of tiny perforations. Researchers believe that this new disease might be a mutation/combination of Kuru and HIV. There appears to be a small percentage of people, all with the blood type O negative, who are resistant to the effects of this virus. Because of this, researchers believe that it might be possible to create a vaccine. This is essential if the virus is to be weaponized and sold to military organizations. Estimates place the profits for such a biological weapon in the billions." Email 4: "Virus “HK” has been given priority one. The Consortium has assembled an international team to do research into isolating a stable form of the pathogen." Email 5: "Virus “HK” has spread much more quickly than originally projected. The breakdown of the social fabric and the loss of assigned agents and researchers have made operations in the field problematic. The mission is clearly threatened. The Australian government has a set of protocols in place in the event of such a massive pandemic. The worst case scenario calls for the nuclear annihilation of the entire island of Banoi. If this worst case scenario unfolds, the Consortium will lose the opportunity to create what could be an extremely profitable biological weapon. Attached photographs document the chaos currently engulfing the island." Email 6: "An emergency video conference is being held at 2 pm GMT. All members of the executive team are required to attend. Please be prompt. Current plans need to be reassessed. Alternatives will be discussed. The successful creation of a weaponized version of Pathogen HK is currently the Consortium’s highest priority." Email 7: "Summary of decisions made during the video conference. 1) Impede the actions of the BIDF Colonel authorized to activate the nuclear protocol. Distract him from his primary duty by infecting his wife, a doctor in the prison hospital on Banoi, with Pathogen HK. 2) Activate Charon, the covert operative located in the prison. An expert hacker and high-tech operative, he’s currently serving a life sentence for his terrorist activities. Charon will be tasked with neutralizing the Colonel’s actions as well coordinating efforts towards finding a stable specimen of the pathogen. To do this he will use recruited agents. Possible allies include the head of research lab hidden in the jungle, away from the prying eyes of environmentalists and animal activists. 3) Lure Pathogen HK immune individuals to Banoi to aid Charon in his quest for a stable specimen of the pathogen. Myers will organize an international blood drive designed to locate and lure suitable candidates. Attached photographs of Charon, Colonel Ryder White, and Dr. Emily White." Email 8: "Charon reports that he has contacted the lead scientist at the research lab located in the jungle and that he has agreed to cooperate. Half his fee should be immediately wired to the previously provided bank account in the Cayman Islands. Dr. West’s photograph is attached." Email 9: "The international blood drive has led to the discovery of 9 individuals immune to Pathogen HK. Attempts are being made to lure them to Banoi by various means. Charon will use whoever arrives in his search and surveillance of the island. Attached are a few of the welcoming emails." Email 10: "Charon reports that more than half of the immune individuals lured to Banoi perished as a result of the social chaos caused by the pandemic. Charon has, however, made contact with four immune individuals who have managed to survive. They will be used to help locate and secure a stable sample of the pathogen. Attached photographs of Sam B, Xian Mei, Purna, and Logan Carter." Chief Medical Officer Emily White's Research:Emily White was an infected survivor featured in Dead Island. She is the wife of Colonel Ryder White. Prior to becoming Infected, Emily was the Chief Medical Officer of the Banoi Island Prison Hospital. She is also the mother of Kate and Pamela White. During the events prior to the main storyline, Emily worked as a doctor in the Banoi High-Security Prison until the outbreak occurred. While on the prison island, she left a series of five Tape Recordings that documented her progress. She was escorted and protected by a prisoner named Kevin, who saved her from being bitten by an Infected. While conducting research and treating patients, Emily was eventually bitten by an infected patient. Despite her set fate, Emily vowed to continue her research until the disease took complete control of her. Upon being contacted by Ryder to prepare for evacuation, she informs him that she had been bitten and that he should go on without her. However, he refused to take her advice and returned to the island in hopes of rescuing her. Upon being found by Ryder, Emily was strapped to a bed; already in the late stages of her transformation but due to the Tetracycline and its ability to slow the effects of the Infection, she was still able to communicate with her husband in slurred English. After aiding Kevin (who was later revealed to be a terrorist), Ryder returned to find Emily already turned into an Infected. Unable to accept his wife's fate, Ryder brought Emily to the roof of the prison for evacuation but was intercepted by the Heroes, who had been tricked by Kevin into believing that Ryder was corrupt. Emily is then set free by Jin. When set loose, Emily attacks and bites Ryder, forcing him to kill her in self-defence. Events of Dead Island: During the main quest "Chasing the White Rabbit", the Hero catches up with Colonel White during his escape attempt. Emily appears to have fully regressed into a mindless Infected, and Ryder has her restrained in a prisoner transport harness and plans to use the cure on her when they're off the island. However, Jin becomes angry with him and unties Emily, who charges straight at Ryder and bites him. He is forced to kill his wife, and enraged, he kills Jin and then uses the antidote on himself — only to discover that it is actually an enhanced version of the virus that transforms him into a monster, which the Heroes end up killing. Dead Island - The Book: Emily, or as she is called in the book, Dana, takes a far larger role than in the game. She is the catalyst for the final event and final fight in the novel. Like the Colonel, she is not seen until the last chapter. We meet her on the roof, already zombified and strapped to a gurney. After Jin gives her life to give White the vaccine, he dumps the whole lot into her mouth. After Charon kills Ryder, Emily starts to change as the 'vaccine' alters her. She turns into what Logan describes as an 'Uber zombie' and they all have to fight her. She ends up falling off the prison roof and getting impaled on a fence, leaving Charon, Yerema and the Heroes to escape on Ryder's helicopter. The Tapes: Tape #1: "This is the Journal of Emily White, Chief Medical officer at the Banoi Island Hospital. A few hours ago, one of our outside food suppliers attacked and bit two of the guards. The man was delirious, violent, and unresponsive, so I had him put in restraints and ran some tests. The symptoms indicate Kuru, a type of spongiform encephalopathy that is endemic to the native population here. It's a Prion disease, like mad cow, and is spread by the practice of cannibalism and the consumption of human brains. I'm keeping him and the guards who were bitten under close observation." Tape #2: "One of the guards being held for observation attacked an orderly and another guard and was, unfortunately, shot to death. A Taser had no effect on him whatsoever. I’m doing a preliminary autopsy as I record this and so far, what have I have found confirms my earlier suspicion. His brain displays advanced symptoms of spongiform encephalopathy. This is astounding, because usually it takes years for Kuru to progress to this stage. The incubation period seems rapidly accelerated. Looking at the cerebellum, I’m finding advanced vacuolization in the… Oh, my God, he’s… he’s alive. He’s still alive. How is this possible? My God… I pronounced him dead! He had no vital signs whatsoever… Guard! GUARD!" Tape #3: "The infection has spread rapidly throughout the prison population. The speed of transmission is breathtaking. Once the first cases emerged among them, the prisoners began to riot. The guards are trying to keep order, but the chaos is spreading. One of the prisoners is helping me with my research. His name is Kevin and he’s been extremely useful as I’ve been trying to find some sort of temporary drug treatment to slow the effects of this devastating disease. Tetracycline seems to stall the infection, but for how long… I don’t know. We’ve barricaded ourselves in a laboratory as I await evacuation. I’m in contact with my husband who assures me that a rescue helicopter is on its way." Tape #4: "Somehow one of the infected got inside and bit me. I was sure I locked the door behind us. Luckily, Kevin killed him before he could do more damage, but now… now I’m infected. This disease is obviously transmitted by blood and saliva and there is no cure for Kuru. There is clearly no cure for this. I can no longer be evacuated from here as I carry the pathogen inside myself now. It’s just too dangerous. I will continue my research as long as I’m able. From what I can tell, everyone infected also has blood markers that indicate HIV. I don’t understand the connection… or even if there is one…" (Kevin's voice cuts in): "Dr. White? Are you alright? Maybe you should lie down?" (Emily): "N-no, I'm alright, Kevin. I need to keep working. As long as I possibly can…" Tape #5: "I’m running low on tetracycline and it’s much too dangerous to venture into the other parts of the hospital now as the corridors are teaming with the infected. Thank God for Kevin’s help. I’m trying to stay lucid long enough to document the symptoms for other researchers who may find these notes. My gait is becoming increasingly unsteady. I’m suffering from ataxia. Tremors are racking my body. My head is throbbing and oh, God… Ryder… I’m sorry. So sorry…" Tape #6: "I radioed the rescue helicopter and told them to leave me here. The disease is taking control of me and soon… soon… Oh God... I told Ryder to stay away, but he’s so stubborn. He has to stay away. I don’t want him to see me like this. I want him to remember me the way I was… not like this… Ryder, if you find this… I’m sorry. Tell Kate and Pam… that mommy loves them… Oh, God…" Events of Escape Dead Island & The HKEA Strain:In Escape Dead Island, numerous files provide information about GeoPharm's research on something called the Hewitt Kahn enzyme accelerator, or HKEA. Although the name HKEA bears some similarities to Pathogen HK described above, Escape Dead Island gives a different account of its nature and its creation. It is unclear at this time whether the original account of Pathogen HK remains canon. HKEA is a virus originally developed to combat kuru, and is capable of being programmed to express proteins as desired. Initially, it is tested on anemones which are then infected with kuru; these results are promising, but insufficient. The research team requests human subjects. Since infecting humans with kuru would be unethical, the team tests Kuru against ADAR1, an RNA-editing enzyme which the team believes will cause a safe level of mutation. Some tests subjects are exposed, either accidentally or intentionally, to HKEA programmed to express the kuru protein itself. Either due to expression of the kuru protein, or modification by ADAR1, or both, HKEA develops anomalous properties - generating blood-borne stem cells that congregate along the spinal column. This development is considered promising, and the team drops research on HKEA as a potential cure for kuru to focus on these new properties. By the time research on HKEA is discontinued, it has developed into the pathogen that will wipe out the Banoi Archipelago. In this form, it takes control over the nervous system and musculature, replicating faster than the ongoing decay of the body can kill it. It maintains this control as long as possible, and in later stages introduces mutations allowing it to spread the infection more efficiently. The Kuru Virus:As is repeated (accurately) several times in the story, Kuru is a prion disease. However, it is not a virus. It is a mis-folded protein that catalyzes the identical mis-folding of other, similar proteins, so that they clump together in a huge stack, disrupting cell functions. The most notable examples of the disease affect neurons of the central nervous system, thus affecting behaviour. Prions contain no genetic material, and cannot recombine with viruses. They are also incapable of mutating, as they "reproduce" not by copying a genetic sequence but by causing similar proteins to misconfigure themselves, a process which then repeats. Kuru is a form of Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease (CJD). You cannot get CJD from being bitten; you must ingest tissue from the brain or spinal cord of an infected victim, as in "mad cow" disease. However, the disease can appear spontaneously in a person when one of his brain proteins just happens to mis-fold (the sporadic form). Some people are also born with a defective form of the protein that tends to spontaneously misfold (the familial form). It can also be contracted through the use of contaminated medical equipment (the iatrogenic form), especially tools used in brain surgery, as the CJD protein is not destroyed by ordinary antiseptic procedures, such as the use of an autoclave. Background and history behind the islands associated with the Dead Island Universe. From the book, the comics and all the current video games that have been released as of the publication of this guide. Introduction: The Banoi Archipelago is a volcanic island chain in Oceania. The largest island is Banoi Island, other important islands are Palanai, Narapela and Amaia. The area is located near Papua New Guinea and Australia, giving the archipelago lush tropical jungles, soft sandy beaches and plenty of sun all year round. The islands were only colonized a few hundred years ago, but since the Information Era, they have become popular tourist sites, with many visitors from all over the world traveling to the various islands for holidays, work or a mixture in between. Banoi island has a large resort built on it, operated by the Royal Palms group. During World War II, the Japanese occupied the archipelago, constructing various tunnels and bunkers across them all, some of which can still be accessed today. Banoi Island:Banoi island is the largest island of the archipelago, with a volcano in its center, the size and layout of the island makes it the main island people travel to when coming to the archipelago. The capital of the island is Moresby, which has a high population density but has fallen into poverty since the resort was constructed, leading to many of its citizens living in slum conditions. Moresby has all the hallmarks of a well built up town, however, with a large Police Station and Town Hall, as well as a Church and Bank. These buildings are old, judging from the architecture, which tells us that they were originally built when the town was still young, around the mid to late eighteen-hundreds. There's also likely a moderately sized hospital in Moresby, judging by the amount of ambulances that can be seen. The Royal Palms Hotel is the main source of revenue for the island, with thousands of visitors each year coming to the complex to take in the sights and sounds of Banoi. It has many bars and pools to keep guests happy, while a large, modern and grand hotel towers over it all with space for several hundred guests in it. There are also small, traditional tropical bungalows in the Resort area for those who do not want to stay in a modern hotel. The resort can partly be blamed for Moresby's decent into poverty, as the sudden increase of both tourists and citizens likely overwhelmed the town, causing rapid, uncontrollable expansion. The primary method of people reaching Banoi is to travel by aircraft to the Banoi Airport, capable to servicing many large airlines and airliners. Several aircraft would have come through the airport each day, taking passengers to and from the island and resort. The secondary method was to come via boat where passengers could unload at the resort marina, but air travel is the primary method of reaching Banoi. The resort and airport were linked by a large overpass which crossed over the Mingende Jungle, the main and largest jungle of Banoi. Due to the general lawlessness of Banoi, other than in Moresby or the Resort, the jungle is filled with rival warlords fighting for power. These include dangerous individuals of the likes of Afran, Vargas and Matutero, all of which are well known across the natives of Banoi for their ruthlessness. However, looking past that you can see the natural beauty that is Banoi, with the lush jungle surrounding the small native villages, made up of wooden huts on stilts to survive any flooding that may occur from the tropical monsoons. There are many bunkers left over from the Japanese occupation, mostly around the resort area. Many of these are still intact from the sturdy construction materials used and they can be entered by inquisitive individuals interested in the history or just to explore the island. The last surprise of Banoi is the maximum security prison located on an island just off the shore. It can be seen from the resort and it houses many dangerous criminals from across the world, including terrorists, hitmen and mass murderers. The island is rocky, with only a small dock used to transport prisoners and supplies to the island. There is also a helipad on the roof for guards to get on and off the island. It's also surrounded by a sea minefield to make sure escape is impossible. Banoi island has a small military, called the Banoi Island Defence Force, or B.I.D.F for short. This could be mobilized in greater numbers should Banoi ever get invaded, but a small garrison is constantly fielded during peacetime. Palanai Island:Palanai island is the second largest island in the archipelago, but at less than half the size of Banoi, it is far less built up. The capital is Henderson, a far nicer location than Moresby, it is modeled after a Mediterranean town and is the hot spot for tourists on the island. It's a far nicer, richer place than Moresby, likely due to the lack of a large resort on the island creating a sudden influx of people. It has a Cinema, Church and bank located in it, as well as various districts such as a sea market. There is an old colonial era fort constructed on the peninsula of Henderson, which would have been used to defend the town from seaborne attacks and from the state of it, it was used in at least one battle. There's also a modern military base attached to the town, accessible only by a bridge on foot. This would have housed a small defense force that could be mobilized in the event of an invasion of the island. Henderson is linked to the jungle areas of the island via a chain powered ferry, which travels between Palanai Ferry Station and Henderson Ferry Station. This ferry is capable of taking both vehicles and people too and from Henderson, though only parts of Henderson is vehicle accessible, with a majority of the town being foot access only. The jungle area of Palanai is far more prone to flooding than the Mingende Jungle of Banoi. A good chunk of the Palanai Jungle is a mangrove forest, with shallow waterways which are easily flooded during monsoons or rainy seasons. As such, many of the large settlements such as Halai Village or Mataka Village are built on stilts, with raised walkways always above the waterline to keep the town from flooding during these events. Boat is a primary method of traveling around the Palanai jungle, with good mobility and the plentiful amount of water access from the mangrove waterways, there are several locations across Palanai which sell or house boats, such as Marik's Marina. The boats themselves are small, shallow canoe type boats with a single, small outboard motor to propel them through the shallow waterways, though ores are always included for emergencies or silent trips. A laboratory is located in the jungle, though it is not clear whether it is operated by GeoPharm. Like Banoi, Palanai was invaded and occupied by the Japanese and bunkers can be found scattered across the island. However, Palanai was seen as the more 'second line' island, and as such fewer defensive bunkers were built. Instead, it was used as a storehouse and support island, with an extensive tunnel system being built, housing a large radar array to forward the defenders of any incoming allied attack. After the war, it was later used by the Australian Army to store chemicals in, but they later abandoned it again, leaving the chemicals there. One such access to the tunnels is through an old Jesuit mission building, which was abandoned many years ago after the Christian missionaries were killed and the building razed by native shamans. Narapela Island:Narapela island is the third largest island in the archipelago, but not by much. It is only slightly larger than Amaia and is mostly uninhabited. The island is primarily used by GeoPharm, which has a large amount of research stations dotted around the island. There is a docks area for loading and unloading goods, likely to support the many GeoPharm labs, while small tourist centers are dotted around the edges of the island where the beaches are located. A good ninety percent of the islands inhabitants are members of GeoPharm, living in various Staff Villages attached or nearby to the associated lab complex. All sorts of research is conducted on the island, ranging from gene sequencing to cosmetics testing. The owner and founder of GeoPharm, Ronald Crown, lived in his mansion on the island, cementing it as the home base of GeoPharm. There's a small airfield on the island, nowhere near as grand as the Banoi Airport, but serviceable to small, light aircraft. This would be capable of taking small amounts of goods or research to and from the island, or for taking small groups of people. Narapela is a mountainous island, more so than any of the other islands in the archipelago. The Narapela Jungle is, like the other islands, lush and dense, more so than any other island due to the lack of development. Since the island is basically uninhabited other than GeoPharm labs, the jungle has not been touched or developed with highways and roads. Only basic pathways lead through the jungle, connecting the labs to one another, but these are not paved or lit. There are a few fences and bridges here and there, but otherwise the only sign of there being a path is the thin worn line created by hundreds of feet walking through. There are many mountain tops which can be accessed on Narapela and they all give breathtaking views of the entire island, and the archipelago itself from a good angle on a clear day. Amaia Island:Amaia island is the smallest of the four island, only just being peaked by Narapela. It is one of the more built up islands in the archipelago and the only other island to have a Royal Palms resort constructed other than Banoi. While the resort complex is smaller than that on Banoi, it is still a hot tourist attraction, as even though Amaia is the smallest island, it still has picturesque views and beautiful sandy beaches. It is, however, the island we know the least about. Like the others, Amaia has a dense tropical jungle filled with exotic wildlife and plant life. GeoPharm set up a lab in the jungle of Amaia to research something but it's unknown what they were studying. How the outbreak occurred. A brief and summarized timeline of events covering all media within the Dead Island universe. Before Events of Dead Island: In Narapela - GeoPharm, an international pharmaceutical corporation headquartered in California, was founded by visionary biologist Ronald Crown. GeoPharm's facilities grew throughout the world - with key locations in California, Europe and on the Banoi Archipelago, a volcanic island chain near Papua New Guinea. Ronald Crown, together with Chase Barrister, is obsessed with working on a cure for Kuru. In order to work freely on his research without any distractions, GeoPharm founder and CEO Ronald Crown buys Narapela, a small island in the Banoi Archipelago located near Papua New Guinea. A research facility is built in order to find a cure for Kuru. Initially, the research by Ronald Crown and Chase Barrister goes really well, but after a horrible discovery they decide to stop their research and seal the labs. In Narapela - Mr. Emory Crown: After the death of Ronald Crown, his son Emory becomes the new CEO of GeoPharm. With the help of a mysterious organisation, Emory gets access to additional resources. This allows him to start new and expensive projects, including a new advanced research facility on Narapela, to continue his father’s research of the cure for the Kuru disease. In Narapela - Planting The Seed: When Chase Barrister realizes that GeoPharm continued his and Ronald Crown’s work, he threatens Emory Crown that if they won’t stop he’ll go public with all the results of the original research. A few weeks later, Chase Barrister dies in his laboratory because of horrible accident. Kevin Barrister, Chase’s son, blames Emory Crown and GeoPharm for his father’s death and swears revenge. In Narapela - Infiltration of GeoPharm: Suspicious about the recent activities of GeoPharm, the Chinese government sends in two agents to investigate. One gets sent to Narapela to infiltrate the research labs, while the other one infiltrates the GeoPharm executive summit at the Royal Palms Resort on Banoi. The name of this other agent is Xian Mei. Events of Dead Island: In Banoi - The Royal Palms Disaster: During the GeoPharm executive summit at the Royal Palms Resort on Banoi, a terrorist called Charon unleashes a deadly virus which kills most of the attendees, including Emory Crown, and turns them into zombies. This assassination causes the first big zombie outbreak on the whole island. It marks the beginning of a journey of four immune survivors who fight their way through Banoi in order to escape the island; Sam B, Xian Mei, Logan and Purna. In Banoi - Escaping Banoi: After defeating Ryder White, who mutated after using a vaccine, the survivors on Banoi escape by helicopter together with Charon. They didn’t know that their journey had just begun. Events of Escape Dead Island: In Narapela - Rumors spread about a zombie outbreak on a small tropical island called Banoi. Cliff Calo, son of a media mogul, is excited by the idea of being the first one to show the world that zombies are real, and convinces his friends Devan and Linda go on their journey of a lifetime. They steal Cliff’s father’s boat and set sail to the Banoi Archipelago to unveil the truth about the Royal Palms disaster. Events of Riptide: Near Palanai - Survivors escaped Banoi, and landed on a military ship patrolling around Palanai, only to get immediately arrested Samuel Hardy, and taken into the ship. After awaking they are meeting John Morgan. A former soldier with unknown past locked up with them in the same cabin. Events of Dead Island: Epidemic In Amaia - John Sinamoi managed to escape the disaster on Banoi and arrived to the small island of Amaia. He though he is safe, but not for long. He found himself surrounded by infected. But is saved by mysterious group of survivors. All of them armed with provisional weapons and immune to a deadly virus. Sinamoi decides to stay and help them out collect supplies to survive. In Amaia - Despite the deadly virus being still the same, turning defenceless people into hordes of undead, some immune survivors decided to adapt instead of resist. They allowed the virus to change them, but they still keep their minds sharp and vigilant like any human... Just a little better. Postcards: They are found in select places throughout Banoi Island and when placed in the Altar where they belong, they unlock developer craft mods. Introduction: Skulls do not carry over into a new game so the player will either have to place them before they leave the island or pick them up again later. The skulls will carry over from single-player into co-op and vice versa, and even if another person picks them up the player can use them. It may also be possible that if the player joins a person that has a skull placed, they may not need to have the skull at all and can just grab the mod. This may be easier to achieve if the skull was placed in the same session. Where To Find The Skulls: ⭐ Orange Skull: Act II. It is under the first set of stairs inside a shopping cart in the Supermarket. ⭐ Green Skull: Act I. The skull can be found along a small rock cliff directing alongside a half sunken boat on the center-southern end of Act 1, or directly eastward from the City Tunnel Gas Station. If you stand by the boat and look at the hill closest to the player, you can see a chest peaking just over the cliff edge, right of the two palm trees. Go to the right side of the hill and parkour up the side of the cliff to find the skull sitting on a chest. ⭐ Purple Skull: Sewers in Act II. It is located on the second level accessed by ladder in the dead end; to get to the ladder you must go through the right door instead of the left door (the door that doesn't lead to the next objective right after killing the first Floater). It takes a bit of trekking but once the player's in the room with the three radiation barrels knocked over with a ladder, they're in the right room. They might be able to see a faint glow from the candlesticks around the skull on the second floor in a corner from the first floor depending on where they're standing at in the room. Alternately, once all sewers are open in Moresby, the player can simply enter the sewer via the entrance in front of the police station and go through the first gate to access the skull room. ⭐ Blue Skull: Act II. During the side quest Uninvited Guests, there is a bathroom opposite the kitchen. The Blue Skull is in one of the corners in a glass case. You must first smash the case in order to be able to retrieve the skull. If playing in the original version of Dead Island, if you exit the house before picking up the skull, YOU CAN NOT GO BACK IN, you will instead have to wait until a restart of the campaign to gain access back to the house. However, this was changed in the Definitive Edition, as you can come and go from the house as much as you please. ⭐ Brown Skull: Act I. The player has to use the portal in Bunker 02, kill the Suicider in the room, and then search the floor. Where To Find The Altars: ⭐ Orange Skull Altar: Act II. It's in the Sewers, at the top of one of the largest rooms in the sewer between the Town Hall and Supermarket. There will be water and flood gates, and then a ladder that goes up to a small platform with a door. When the player climbs the ladder, the door will be on their right and directly in front of them will be a Walker sitting against the wall near a propane tank. The altar is inside the room on the left. ⭐ Green Skull Altar: Act II, in the Supermarket. This altar is in an area directly to the right upon entering main market. There are shelves full of teddy bears, and one of these shelves is the altar. ⭐ Purple Skull Altar: Act II, during the quest Uninvited Guests. One of the burners is lit in the kitchen - this is the altar. ⭐ Blue Skull Altar: Act I. Bunker 06 in the Resort area will be surrounded by zombies, with a single survivor, Jose Garcia, to rescue. Once he is rescued, the player should travel through the manhole in the bunker to the other area of it. There is a metal door on the level, and propane tanks on the level above. The player must place the tank next to the door and shoot it to blow it open. The altar is on the wall underneath the big blue arrow. ⭐ Brown Skull Altar: The place is shown on the picture. The easiest way to reach the location is to go into the bungalow district near the altar. At the back of the a bungalow near the powerhouse at the Silver Bungalows district is a cliff drop that heads towards the marked spot. When the player reaches the tree, they should carefully move around the bushes and onto the rocks and then follow the rocks until they start to see greenery. The altar is tucked away in an indent there, near a flag. Rewards: NOTE: All recipes require $10,000 and 5 Diamonds. The weapons are all created by the mod, so there is no need to find them. ⭐ Orange Skull: Developer's No. 1 craft "electrobody". (Parts needed: Battery.) ⭐ Green Skull: Developer's No. 2 craft "cr33zz revange for endless crunch". (Parts needed: Battery.) ⭐ Blue Skull: Developer's No. 3 craft "plaguebearer". (Parts needed: Oleander.) ⭐ Purple Skull: Developer's No. 4 craft "just mindblowing craft by simon!". (Parts needed: Battery.) ⭐ Brown Skull: Developer's 666 craft "beware the power of glova". (Parts needed: Diamond.) Emily White was an infected survivor featured in Dead Island. She is the wife of Colonel Ryder White. Prior to becoming Infected, Emily was the Chief Medical Officer of the Banoi Island Prison Hospital. She is also the mother of Kate and Pamela White. Introduction: Ryder White's Campaign: During the events prior to the main storyline, Emily worked as a doctor in the Banoi High-Security Prison until the outbreak occurred. He also reveals that his wife is a doctor working at the Prison. Unfortunately, she was bitten while trying to help the infected, but was able to tell her husband what she knew. According to Ryder, the doctors gave her a serum to slow the progress of the infection and therefore she is still alive, but is in a bad shape. During the main quest Chasing the White Rabbit, the Hero catches up with Colonel White during his escape attempt. Emily appears to have fully regressed into a mindless Infected, and Ryder has her restrained in a prisoner transport harness and plans to use the cure on her when they're off the island. She turns into what Logan describes as an 'Uber zombie' and they all have to fight her. She ends up falling off the prison roof and getting impaled on a fence, leaving Charon, Yerema and the Heroes to escape on Ryder's helicopter. GUARD!" Tape #3: LOCATION: This one is found in the broken fan tunnel soon after locating tape #1. "The infection has spread rapidly throughout the prison population. I’m in contact with my husband who assures me that a rescue helicopter is on its way." Tape #4: LOCATION: This tape can be found shortly after meeting Charon for the first time, in the stairway several flights down It will be right next to a gurney flipped on its side. "Somehow one of the infected got inside and bit me. As long as I possibly can…" Tape #5: LOCATION: The cutscene where it's revealed that Charon has been maintaining radio contact with the survivors as if he were Ryder, after which you'll find this tape on a desk behind you. "I’m running low on tetracycline and it’s much too dangerous to venture into the other parts of the hospital now as the corridors are teaming with the infected. So sorry…" Tape #6: LOCATION: On a desk in the same room where you find Emily White restrained on a hospital bed. "I radioed the rescue helicopter and told them to leave me here. The disease is taking control of me and soon… soon… Oh God... I told Ryder to stay away, but he’s so stubborn. He has to stay away. I don’t want him to see me like this. I want him to remember me the way I was… not like this… Ryder, if you find this… I’m sorry. Tell Kate and Pam… that mommy loves them… Oh, God…" |
